HIGHCLERE CASTLE
Highclere Castle is located in beautiful grounds just a whisper away from Staddle Stone Spa. The Castle is known for being the stunning setting for Downtown Abbey TV series. A favourite for most.
The gardens and grounds are only open when the Castle is open. There are however three public footpaths near the estate and some walks to enjoy in the summer months. Visit their website to find out more along with up and coming events.
HIGHCLERE VILLAGE WALKS & CYCLING
Staddle Stone Spa is set in the beautiful village of Highclere where there are many scenic walks and cycle trails whatever time of the year. Check out the Highclere Village Society website for a few local walks.
WATERSHIP DOWN
Watership Down is located in Ecchinswell, a short 10min drive from Highclere. The Down is best known as the setting for Richard Adam’s 1972 novel based on rabbits, also called Watership Down. The area is popular with cyclists and walkers admiring the fantastic views.
SANDHAM MEMORIAL CHAPEL
Less than a 5min drive in the village of Burghclere you will find The Sandham Memorial Chapel.
Built to honour the ‘forgotten dead’ of the First World War, who were not remembered on any official memorials. Inside is home to 19 oil paintings by British war artist Sir Stanley Spencer reflecting his experiences during the Great War.
The chapel is surrounded by lawns and orchards, with views of Watership Down. It is run by the National Trust and is open to the public.
